The government has reappointed N.S. Vishwanathan as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India for a one-year period with effect from 4 July. His tenure was to end on 3 July. He is in charge of regulation of banks, non-banking finance companies and cooperative banks. The government’s action follows the abrupt resignation of Viral Acharya as deputy governor 6 months ahead of schedule. RBI now has 2 other deputy governors now – B.P. Kanungo and M.K. Jain.
