The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has asked banks to set up Aadhaar enrolment centers in their premises. UIDAI feels this will facilitate updating of Aadhaar details by the public. Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO of UIDAI, said UIDAI has asked the banks to set up the facility in at least one out of 10 branches in the coming weeks. There are some 25,000 active Aadhaar enrolment centers across the country but they operate from their own premises. There are centers operating from banking premises at present. UIDAI expects that this step will ensure creation of at least 12,000 more Aadhaar enrolment and updating centers in the country.
