United Bank of India is proposing to implement a second factor authentication for providing additional authentication/validation for use of debit card on internet for online transactions. The bank has issued more than 23 lakh VISA and RuPay enabled ATM/ debit cards to its customers and it is using IST 7.5 ATM switch. Currently the bank uses second factor authentication of Visa, Verified by Visa (VbV) services, for VISA cards only. It now wants to bring RuPay cards too under the 2 factor authentication. The bank has sought proposals from service providers to implement the system. The bank wants authentication/validation to be based on information which is not available on the cards for all online card not present transactions,. The authentication feature should meet all guidelines as prescribed by the RBI, government and the payment card brand concerned.
