UBI to open more branches in south, west

United Bank of India will increase the number of branches in southern and western India where its presence at present is minimal, says the bank’s MD and CEO Pawan Bajaj. Speaking after inaugurating the 2018th branch of the bank near Coimbatore, he said the bank plants to add 35 branches before the close of this fiscal, including three link centers (which would function like a regional office) at Indore, Agra and Ludhiana. Bajaj said the bank would add 276 branches in the next financial year subject to the banking regulator’s permission. Bajaj also said the bank has opened over 3 lakh worker accounts in the last two months and continue to open 200 to 300 accounts every day. The bank is also acquiring 10 lakh POS machines.
