Banking operations were severely affected by the day-long, nation-wide strike called by employees of public sector banks on 28 February. News reports came in about ATMs running dry at various places across the country. The All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), which called the strike, said the strike was a total success and all the banking related transactions came to a standstill. According to AIBEA general secretary C.H. Venkatachalam clearing operations were at impacted even though RBI had kept its operations on. Some private sector banks too participated in the strike. AIBEA’s demands include compensation to employees and officers for extra hours they have put in following demonetization and early discussions on wage revision for the bank employees.
