Qatar Islamic Bank has introduced facial recognition capabilities. Called Face ID, this is the bank’s iOS and Android mobile app, and it makes Bank in Qatar the first bank in the country to introduce facial recognition technology feature on all smartphone devices. Instead of customers logging into their accounts with their username and password each time they open the QIB Mobile App, they can now use their Face ID to login in a simple and secured manner. Using the biometric authentication option, QIB customers can login to their mobile banking app, to manage their accounts, make payments and transfers, have full control on their cards, request a cheque book, or even open a new fixed deposit account, among other banking transactions. The bank is now upgrading its mobile app, and this is part of the plan. D Anand, the bank’s general manager, Personal Banking Group, said since the introduction of the fingerprint login option in the upgraded Mobile App, thousands of the bank’s customers use it every day. Extending that functionality to facial recognition technology is part of the bank’s ongoing commitment to provide a better and up-to-the-minute banking experience to the customers through easy and secure features, he added.
