Pittsburgh’s largest financial institution, PNC Financial Services Group, has moved up in the ranks of the world’s 100 largest banks. It was at No 80 on SNL Financial’s list, which ranks banks by total assets. It was 82 a year ago. Two of the region’s largest financial institutions were also on the list. The Bank of New York Mellon Corp was at 72, flat with the prior list, and the Royal Bank of Scotland, parent of Citizens Financial Group, at 17, down from 16. The list was led by Industrial & Commercial Bank of China. HSBC Holdings was second. China Construction Bank was third, France’s BNP Paribas SA fourth, and Japan’s Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group fifth. JPMorgan Chase & Co. was sixth, the only U.S. bank to crack the top 10.
