There will now be concerted efforts by banks to persuade account holders to link their accounts to Aadhar numbers. The banks will use ATMs, internet banking portals and mobile apps to request the customers to do so. They will provide self-help options in ATMs, internet banking sites and mobile apps so that customers can seed their Aadhar number into their banks accounts. ATMs could be an ideal medium for this as there are about 1.5 lakh ATMs in the country. The government of the view that linking Aadhar to bank accounts will make the direct benefit transfer scheme highly successful. There are many bank accounts, including those recently opened under the prime minister’s scheme that are not linked to Aadhar.
