One and a half lakh loans will be disbursed in the Konkan region under the PM SVANidhi scheme within the next month, said Minister of State for Finance Dr. Bhagwat Karad in Mumbai on Thursday. Out of this, he said, one lakh loans will be given to Mumbai’s street vendors, while about 50,000 loans will be provided to other Konkani municipalities. A review meeting on the implementation of the scheme in seven districts was held with Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, elected representatives, municipal commissioners and urban development department officials of the state.
Dr. Karad informed that private banks also have agreed to take necessary steps to implement PM SVANidhi scheme. Only 24,843 people have registered for this loan in Mumbai so far, which is much below the target. Similar review meetings with SLBCs in various states have been held. “We are focussing on PM SVANidhi Yojana and Kisan credit card schemes as these are for the benefit of the poorest people. Gujarat has achieved the target of 3.5 lakh PM SVANidhi loans after such meetings were held there. We will do regular follow-up with the help of the Lead District Manager of Bankers’ Committee,” he added.
