The Central Bank of Oman has launched a national debit card payment gateway infrastructure for eCommerce transactions. The platform is intended to address the needs of eCommerce firm ensuring highest transaction standards in a cost-effective and highly secured manner. The platform, called OmanNet Debit Card E-Payment Gateway infrastructure, provides safe and secure eCommerce transactions. OmanNet is a National Switch platform in the country that routes ATM and POS transactions within the country and GCCNET countries. With this new platform, OmanNet will be processing the national debit card payment gateway eCommerce transactions. The platform will facilitate merchants in the Sultanate to offer eCommerce services and also enhance acceptability by majority of payment cardholders in the country. Approximately 90% of the payment cards in the country are debit cards issued by local banks in Oman.
