The government has appointed Madhabi Puri Buch as the chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India. She is the first woman chairperson of the market regulator. She replaces Ajay Tyagi, whose term ended on February 28.
Madhabi served as a whole-time member of SEBI from 2017 to 2021, and she was nominated to lead the technology committee set up by the SEBI. She was also the head of ICICI Securities.
