Lloyds Banking Group will be shutting 49 branches across Britain in 2018, which will result in some 100 job losses. The bank told its staff that the branches affected will be that of Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches. A spokesperson for the bank said these closures were a result of more and more customers choosing to do their banking online. He, however, maintained that branches were still a key part of the service offer. The bank had in April said it would be closing some 100 branches by the end of October 2017, with the loss of 325 jobs. Overall, 32 Lloyds branches will be shut, along with 11 Bank of Scotland branches and 6 Halifax. The bank said even with these closures, around 95% of Lloyds Bank customers and 90% of Halifax and Bank of Scotland customers will still have a branch within 5 miles of their home.
