Kotak Bank sees mobile transactions go up 300%

Kotak Mahindra Bank said that its mobile-based transactions have gone up by 300% in September 2015 compared to the same period in 2015. The bank said these transactions were of the order of Rs 1,700 crore during the month. The bank is now in the process of studying integrating the technology platforms of ING Vysya Bank, which it had acquired. The bank had recently come out with an app called Bharat and recently it had launched a Tamil version in Chennai. Deepak Sharma, executive vice president and head, Digital Initiatives, said Bharat is a mobile banking app which requires no internet connectivity. Besides allowing to manage savings bank account, current account and credit card, the app also allows to transfer funds without internet connectivity, recharge mobile and DTH services and to apply for Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti BimaYojana. He said the app is available in six languages – Hindi, English, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada and Gujarati – to enable the bank’s savings and current account customers to transact in their language. The app would enable a customer to transfer funds – subject to a per day cap of Rs 2500 to any other person’s bank account using their mobile phones and without internet connectivity.
