The Kerala government does not support the merger of State Bank of Travancore with State Bank of India. The state’s chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the people in the state consider State Bank of Travancore as a bank of Kerala and the government too has the same view and the bank should remain as it is, he said at a press the meet program. The state government on its own is proposing to create a bank for the state by restructuring the cooperative banks into a two-tier system, he said, adding the state cooperative bank would then become a large bank with financial acumen comparable to any scheduled bank in the country.
