Indian Bank to close some ATMs at night

IBIndian Bank will decide on closing some ATMs, mostly in rural locations, at night as a security measure. The bank has examined the transactions between 10 pm and 6 am in all its 1700 ATMs across the country and has found that about 650 ATMs are reported to be showing zero hits during the time. It is, therefore, considering keeping such ATMs closed during this period. Of 650 such ATMs, about 300 ATMs are in Tamil Nadu. T. M. Bhasin, CMM of the bank, said the bank would discuss the subject in its upcoming board meeting and would start implementing it after that. He said while the proposed partial shut down plan is in the interest of customers, it is also expected to help save on power and other costs marginally.
