HDFC Bank has market cap much higher than the market cap of all the public sector banks put together. In fact, the market cap of all the public sector banks is slightly higher than half the value of HDFC Bank. It has been established that the total value of the 13 listed PSU banks stood at s 2.55 lakh crore as per the respective closing prices of their shares on the exchanges on 22 May, while HDFC Bank’s market cap was Rs 4.6 lakh crore. Among the PSU banks, the market cap of State Bank of India stood at Rs 1.35 lakh crore and this has been the saving grace. Kotak Mahindra Bank is the second most valued with a market cap of Rs 2.22 lakh crore.
