Urban cooperative banks in Gujarat will start offering internet banking and mobile banking faculties to its customers by the end of the year. Jyotindra Mehta, chairman, Gujarat Urban Cooperative Banks’ Federation (GUCBF), said nearly 50% of the UCBs in the state are ready to offer these facilities as these banks are ready to adopt high end technology. He mentioned these plans after a conclave on UCBs in Ahmedabad. He said all the UCBs are already connected with core banking solution (CBS) and now it is time to go for the next step and provide facilities such as net banking and mobile banking, he said adding among the 235 UCBs, 50% of them are having one or two branches and hence the other 50% is ready for implementation of these facilities. There are 18 district cooperative banks and 235 UCBs in Gujarat with 1.5 crore customers. These banks have Rs 40,000 crore in deposits and Rs 30,000 crore in advances.
