Commercial Bank of Ceylon has concluded an agreement with Earthport, a cross-border payments service provider, to being in local payment capability into Sri Lanka. The deal is part of Earthport’s Asian expansion strategy, with similar money transfer partnerships already secured in Pakistan and India. Sajeev Viswanathan, president, global strategy at Earthport, said the tie-up with Commercial Bank of Ceylon is the fulfilment of the company’s vision to become a global payment utility. Pradeep Banduwansa, chief manager, Remittances, Commercial Bank of Ceylon, said from the bank’s point of view, the venture is an example of ways to improve services to its customers. Earthport says enables clients to access fast, secure and cost effective payments to over 60 countries globally, through a single contract, technical integration and service relationship.
