Country poised for a more robust, transparent banking system: Sawhney

“Indian banks have weathered many of storms.  With the banking industry pursuing digitization in a big way, the country is poised for a more robust, transparent, and inclusive banking system in the coming days,” said Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity). He was delivering the keynote address at the 17th Annual IBA Banking Technology Conference, Expo, and Awards, which was hosted virtually, with the theme ‘Next Gen Banking.’

AK Goel, Chairman of the Indian Banks’ Association and MD & CEO of Punjab National Bank, emphasised the importance of keeping up with technology. Various policy measures outlined in the Union Budget, such as setting up digital banking units in 75 districts and bringing the 1,50,000 branches of the Indian Postal Bank under the core banking system, will go a long way toward bringing about a significant transformation in digitization and financial inclusion, he said.

T Rabi Sankar, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, shared his thoughts on cryptocurrency from a regulatory standpoint.

Bank of Baroda has been named the ‘Best Technology Bank of the Year’ in the large bank’s category.
