Canara Bank has adopted a village, Kodiyalam Pulivalam, in Tamil Nadu under its village adoption programme. It will spend about Rs 15 lakh for providing basic amenities, including cement roads and solar lamps in the village. Inaugurating the program at the village, Mythili Krishnamoorthy, CGM of the bank, said training would be imparted to women in vocations including tailoring for their empowerment. There are some 300 houses in the village. The bank also organized a free health and eye camp on the occasion where some 100 persons were screened for general health check-up and for eye ailments. A day-long exhibition on ‘financial planning’ was also organized at the village to popularize the advantages of insurance, mutual fund, and non-life insurance to benefit the masses.
