BC Card, a leading credit card issuer, will be the first to launch biometric recognition and settlement service even as South Korea’s financial regulator approved the technology earlier this year. Lee Moo-yeon, who is in charge of the fintech team at BC Card, said the company has been able to secure high accuracy, or match rate, using fingerprint scanning technology in this field. Samsung group’s Samsung Card will be also launched in the country within a few months. It will launch its flagship mobile payment tool Samsung Pay, with a built-in fingerprint verification system. Shinhan Bank is preparing to introduce a vein pattern recognition system while state-run Industrial Bank of Korea focuses on iris technology.
