Bank employees are mulling a day-long strike on 22 October to highlight several pending issues for them, including the government’s proposal to merge public sector banks in the country. The strike, called by the All India Bank Employees Association (AlBEA) and the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), will also be supported by the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC). Earlier in September 4 bank unions – All India Bank Officers’ Confederation, All India Bank Officers’ Association, Indian National Bank Officers’ Congress and National Organisation of Bank Officers, had called for a strike on similar issues.
