There is a possibility of an all-India bank strike on 28 February. The conciliatory talks between the bank unions and the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) have not yielded any result and as such the unions are ready to go ahead with their plan. The United Forum of Bank Unions, which is the apex organization of 9 bank unions, has said it has decided to proceed with the proposed strike. C.H. Venkatachalam, general secretary, All India Bank Employees Association, announced the decision. The unions had been demanding legitimate compensation for employees and officers for the extra hours of work performed during the demonetization period among other things. There is also a demand for introduction of five-day week in the banking sector.
