The Bank of Montreal is planning to trial a biometric bank app that can authenticate transactions via fingerprint or facial recognition. The bank’s corporate credit cards will use the MasterCard Identity Check mobile app, which can use a smartphone’s fingerprint reader or camera. The security system, which can be used to verify online purchases, will be fully available within a few months and a similar option for personal consumer cards will follow later in the year. According to Bank of Montreal vice president and head of North American corporate card products Steve Pedersen, the biometric technology will increase security as well as customer convenience.
