Bank staff will have second and fourth Saturdays as holidays from 1 September. The government has finally acceded to the demand of bank staff in this regard. A government spokesperson said the central government has decided to declare the second and the fourth Saturday of every month as public holiday for banks in India, whether or not such banks are included in the Second Schedule. At present, all public sector and private sector banks work half-day on Saturdays. All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) general secretary C.H. Venkatachalam said this is a welcome move and it will be a big relief to employees. He also hoped it will improve the productivity of employees.
