The Reserve Bank of India has told banks to allow all customers to register their mobile numbers through ATMs, eliminating the need for them to visit their home branches for the purpose. The customers should also be allowed to register their mobile numbers across branches as well as through internet banking instead of the current practice of getting it done at the home branches. Registering mobile numbers are necessary for the customers to receive SMS alerts as well as for the banks to convey OTPS for online transactions.
