Another bank strike coming

Bank employees are mulling a 2-day nationwide strike beginning 31 January. The strike call has been given by the United Forum of Bank Unions, an umbrella body of the 9 bank unions including All India Bank Officers’ Confederation, All India Bank Employees Association and National Organization of Bank Workers. Several public sector banks have informed their customers that normal banking operations could be affected due to the strike. The main demand of the unions spearheading the strike is wage revision, which has been pending since November 2017. A spokesperson of the unions said since there was no clear commitment from the Indian Banks’ Association on the demand from unions, the strike call stands. The strike may coincide with the presentation of the Union Budget for 2020-21 on 1 February.
