ABN Amro and Rabobank have started the Garmin Pay service to their customers. Garmin sells smartwatches which can also have bank cards or credit cards. The watch can then be used for contactless payment in shops. Garmin said Rabobank is already live with its system and ABN Amro and International Card Services (ICS) are still coming soon on to the platform. More such partnerships are expected, according to Garmin. The payment process runs via MasterCard, based on token services. A token is a unique number that can be exchanged via NFC between a device and the pin cashier. The card network accepts the token as valid identification to set up a payment. ABN Amro has been testing wearables since 2017 and has already made it possible to link the KERV, a ring containing such a payment chip.
