Some nine CMDs of public sector banks are expected to face an interview 28 March for being considered for the position of deputy governor of the RBI, the post that is falling vacant in April following the resignation of K.C. Chakrabarty. These senior bankers will be interviwed by a panel comprising RBO governor Raghuram Rajan and secretary, Financial Services Rajiv Takru. The nine candidates are CMDs of Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, UCO Bank, Bank of India, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Indian Bank, Dena Bank, Indian Overseas Bank and Canara Bank. Chakrabarty, who has been a professional banker before he took up the assignment of deputy governor at the central bank, had sought early retirement and wanted to be releived on 25 April. There are two vacancies now at the RBI – the posts held by Chakrabarty and Anand Sinha.
