Karnataka Bank has kept as much as Rs 6120 crore for agriculture sector for the current financial year, MD and CEO of the bank P Jayarama Bhat said. He was addressing the agriculture field officers, heads of agriculture development branches, green branches and the regional heads from across India. Bhat said around 58% of rural households depend on agriculture as their principal means of livelihood. Agriculture sector contributes around 16% to the GDP. Considering this the bank has earmarked Rs 6120 crore for agriculture sector during the current fiscal, he said. According to him, the country’s rural sector has tremendous potential for employment generation and capital deployment and the rural development initiatives hold key for real and sustainable development of the country.
