HDFC Bank is readying to deploy 20 humanoids at its branches in the coming two years. These humanoids will help customers in various ways. Nitin Chugh, the bank’s head of digital banking, said these humanoids, called Ira, will be introduced in the next two years. The first Ira was launched at a branch in Mumbai. Ira helps the welcome desk by giving directions to customers. Chugh said there was a high possibility of using it for various other jobs including transactions. The bank is working on artificial intelligence and voice recognition technologies which, when coupled with connectivity with its core banking software, will open new possibilities, he said. He also said the newer humanoids to be deployed at other locations may not be replicas of Ira. Kochi-based Asimov Robotics had developed Ira.
