The Banking Frontiers publication group is pleased to announce that Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Chairman of the committee to draft the National Cooperation Policy, will be the Chief Guest for the 16th National Cooperative Banking Summit (NCBS) & Frontiers in Cooperative Banking Awards (FCBA) 2022, which will be held in Indore on 15-16 October 2022.
The national-level committee, chaired by Suresh Prabhu and constituted by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, consists of 47 members from across the country.
Suresh Prabhu, an entrepreneur and banker par excellence, was formerly the youngest chairman of Saraswat Cooperative Bank. Prabhu supported Saraswat Bank’s computerization as Vice-Chairman and eventually Chairman. He was also a member of the World Bank Parliamentary Network and chaired the World Bank’s South Asia Water Regional Group.
Prabhu, a former Union minister with 10 cabinet portfolios and a six-term Member of Parliament, is the founding Chancellor of Rishihood University, Delhi NCR from 2020, a Guest Professor at the London School of Economics from 2021, and an Adjunct Professor at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, from 2013. Prabhu served as the Prime Minister’s Sherpa (emissary) for the G7 and G20 Summits, chaired the Task Force on River Interlinking, and has been a staunch advocate of public participation and dialogue in the passage of new legislations. Prabhu, who is known for thinking outside the box, has implemented various reforms and effected organisational transformations. He has been associated with over a dozen parliamentary committees and forums.
Prabhu is a Chartered Accountant with an LLB and a BCom. He is pursuing a PhD from Frei University in Berlin in ‘Climate Change Issues in Relation to Energy and Environment,’ as well as a PhD in ‘State Public Finance’ from Mumbai University. He received an Honorary Doctorate from IFRI. He is involved with a number of worldwide social impact organisations, and he enjoys reading, writing, music, and sports. He is also an avid philatelist.
