Barclays is proposing to sell its US wealth unit and Stifel Financial Corp is in talks with the bank for a buyout. The sale is estimated to bring in $150 million to $250 million for the bank. Stifel has recently made a series of acquisitions, including Sterne Agee Group for $150 million in cash and stock. The purchase of Barclays unit could bring in many wealthy clients to Stifel.
