SBI Pinkathon 2014 was flagged off by Arundhati Bhattacharya, chairman, State Bank of India at the Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium, New Delhi on 14 September. More than 7,000 women in the capital participated in the awareness campaign against breast cancer and promote health and fitness among women. Women from different sections of society, such as corporates, banks, colleges, medical practitioners, social clubs, among others participated in the run under various categories. SBI Pinkathon, is the largest international run only for women and it is being sponsored by State Bank of India. It introduced a 21 km at Delhi for the first time, apart from the standard 3 km, 5 km and 10 km categories. Bhattacharya said the bank has sponsored the Pinkathon in order to bring the issue of women’s health and early detection of breast cancer to the centre stage. In a household, women’s health receives the least priority. We believe a healthy women can make a healthy home and thereby a healthy nation. It is a noble cause and it was heartening to see so many women come together to highlight an issue of national importance, she said. The money raised out of the event would be used to treat economically challenged cancer patients across the country. Bhattacharya along with Anshula Kant, DMD of the bank seen with the participants.
