SBI leads m-banking with 38% of market share

State Bank of India is spearheading the mobile banking industry in the country. According an RBI data for December 2015, the bank accounted for 38.44% of total mobile banking market share in terms volume of transactions. The bank is also leading the value of transactions with 35.97% of total transactions. SBI has recorded 151.83 lakh transactions worth Rs 17,636 crore in December 2015. ICICI Bank follows SBI in terms of volume of mobile banking transaction with 70.01 lakh transactions. Axis Bank comes third and HDFC Bank comes fourth with 60.28 lakh and 39.13 lakh transactions respectively. SBI chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya said SBI has been consistently maintaining leadership position in terms of mobile banking volume since April 2015. According to her, till a few months back, the bank’s customers were doing mostly low to medium value fund transfers and m-commerce transactions on mobile. But with the launch of a slew of dedicated user-friendly mobile apps for non-retail customers, the average transaction size has shot up more than five times, she said.
