Veteran cooperative sector leader Satish Marathe, Director, Central Board, Reserve Bank of India, will be the Guest of Honour at the 16th National Cooperative Banking Summit (NCBS) & Frontiers in Cooperative Banking (FCBA) Awards 2022, to be held on 15-16 October at Indore.
Presently Satish Marathe is Director, National Housing Bank; Member, Expert Committee, Study on Relevance, Applicability and Retention of three-tier short term cooperative credit structure (STCS), GOI, Ministry of Cooperation; Member, National Level Committee for drafting New National Cooperation Policy; Independent Director, Indian Institute of Insolvency Professionals of ICAI; Vice Chairman, Laxmanrao Inamdar National Academy for Coop Research & Development; Member, Executive Committee, National Council for Cooperative Training (NCCT); Independent Director, Algovision Data Sciences; and Director, Simplydesi Ventures Pvt Ltd (Company promoted by Sahakar Bharati to market products of SHGs, JLGs and Women Entrepreneurs)
Born on February 1, 1950, Satish Marathe holds Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce and Law from the University of Bombay. He also holds Diploma in Journalism (Gold Medalist from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan). All through his college days, he attended morning college and worked during day time to earn a living.
Satish Marathe started his banking career in Bank of India and rose to be the Chairman and CEO of The United Western Bank (from 2002 to 2006). Earlier, in September 1991, he became CEO of Janakalyan Sahakari Bank which recorded high consistent growth during his 10 years tenure. Marathe is the Founder Member of Sahakar Bharati which was registered in the year 1979 and is presently, its Member, National Executive Council. Previously, he was the Savrakshak (patron) for three years and also president for 6 years. Sahakar Bharati, the largest NGO in the cooperative sector in the country, has spread its activities all over India and presently, over 20,000 cooperatives are associated with it. He is also the Founder Director of ‘Centre for Studies & Research in Cooperation’, a foundation registered under Section 8 of Indian Companies Act, 2013 for undertaking study and research in the cooperative sector.
He has been representing the cooperative sector in pre-budget meetings with the finance ministers for past several years. In 2015, IFFCO conferred Sahakarita Ratna Award on Satish Marathe.
