The finance ministry has started the search for chairman of the State Bank of India. The term of incumbent Arundhati Bhattacharya ends on 6 October. According to news reports, the department of financial services has communicated to the Banks Board Bureau the emerging vacancies at the top level of PSU banks which will have to be filled during course of the year. This includes the post of chairman and one MD of the SBI. Bhattacharya will complete her four-year term as chairperson of the bank. The post assumes significance as the bank has recently merged five associates and the Bharatiya Mahila Bank pushing it into the league of top 50 banks globally in terms of assets.
