Two key lessons unlearned in 2024: As a visionary leader, I am committed to growth – not just in my professional life but personally as well. In 2024, I decided to unlearn certain habits and ideas that no longer served me. As someone who was close to retirement at a giant company where I served for nearly 31 years, I decided to take on a new challenge, with the feeling: ‘Badlaav se kya darna?’
I am inspired by Jai in Sholay: ‘Jo darr gaya, samjho marr gaya.’ (He who is afraid, is as good as dead.)
The biggest learning for me in 2024 was adapting to change rather than being paralyzed by fear. This highlights the importance of resilience and the necessity of embracing change to survive and thrive, making it a timeless and relevant message.
Setting Goals for 2025: I don’t look at life as wins & losses. I look at it as a whole, while living each day at a time. If you ask me now, I think my goal for 2025 is to be able to do sheershasana without a wall’s support. For me, this is not just about a yogasana, but a reminder that balance and prioritizing what truly matters will always remain at the core of my life.
Recharging the Body: We all need to step away from the grind occasionally, and I find my perfect recharge destination in the laid-back charm of Goa. Whether it’s for a short weekend getaway or an extended retreat, Goa’s beaches and relaxed vibe provide the perfect escape to recharge physically, keeping me refreshed for the challenges ahead.
Recharging the Mind: For mental rejuvenation, I prefer the serenity of places like Ananda Resorts & Retreats in Rishikesh, Himachal Pradesh. The tranquility of these destinations, coupled with their spiritual and natural beauty, allows me to clear my mind and gain perspective. These moments of introspection are essential in maintaining clarity and focus in my demanding role.
Favorite Physical Activity: In a world where we’re constantly on the move, I keep my health in check with one simple yet effective physical activity – walking. Whether it’s a stroll through nature or a walk around the city, walking provides me with the space to reflect, unwind, and stay physically active.
Favorite Mental Activity: Yoga is a central component of my mental and physical routine. It’s not just a form of exercise for me; yoga serves as a mental practice that enhances my focus, mindfulness, and overall mental well-being. It allows me to stay grounded and remain balanced amid the fast-paced demands of leadership.
Favorite Cuisine: My love for food is well-known, and when it comes to my favorite cuisine, nothing beats the rich flavors of North Indian food. From buttery parathas to curries, I enjoy the diverse, robust tastes that are unique to Indian cuisine. My all-time favorite is Rajma-Chawal!
Favorite Restaurant: When it comes to dining out, I have a soft spot for Swati Restaurant in Mumbai. While many people focus on ambiance or aroma, for me, it’s the food that stands out & matters. The restaurant’s ability to offer flavorful, authentic dishes is what keeps me coming back.
The most Special Birthday Gift: Birthday gifts are often treasured, but for me, the most special gift I received wasn’t something extravagant- it was deeply sentimental and meaningful. While I like to keep the specifics private, what’s clear is that I value personal connections and the thoughtfulness behind gifts.
First Car: For any man, his car or bike is a huge possession of pride. Mine was a Fiat in 1999. I even remember its number. It was a second-hand car but I have first-hand memories of it, fresh as ever – even today!
Inspirational Dialog from Bollywood: A famous dialogue from the movie Maqbool that I live by is: “Shakti ka santulan bohot zaruri hai sansar mein” (There has to be a balance of power in the universe). This quote resonates deeply with my approach to life and leadership, where I believe in balancing power with responsibility, strength, and empathy.
A Role Model: In the world of business and technology, I find inspiration in KV Kamath, who has influenced my mindset. I admire his sharp intellect, curiosity, and passion for technology. Kamat’s approach to staying ahead of the curve and his endless pursuit of knowledge inspire me to continually grow and innovate.
Ending thoughts: Whether it’s the way I recharge my body and mind, or the role models that inspire me, I live and lead with a sense of clarity, wisdom, and purpose. My dedication to innovation and continuous improvement, both in my work and personal life, makes me a true role model for all who have the privilege of working alongside me.”
