Sashidhar Jagdishan assumes office at HDFC Bank

The expected change of guard happened at HDFC Bank in a smooth manner as possible when Sashidhar Jagdishan took charge as Managing Director and CEO, succeeding Aditya Puri, who retired on 27 October after an illustrious career spanning 26 years. Jagdishan will head the bank for a period of 3 years. Puri retired from the bank at the end of business hours on 26 October upon reaching 70 years of age, in accordance with the tenure approved by the Reserve Bank of India. Jagdishan has been a part of the bank since 1996 and played a critical role in supporting the growth trajectory of the bank, the bank said in a regulatory filing. He has an overall experience of 29 years after he joined HDFC Bank in 1996 as a manager in the finance function, became business head-finance in 1999, and was appointed CFO in 2008. He was heading the functions of finance, human resources, legal and secretarial, administration, infrastructure, corporate communications, and corporate social responsibility, prior to his appointment as MD and CEO. He is a graduate in physics and a chartered accountant by profession besides holding a Master’s degree in economics of money, banking, and finance.
