The Banks Board Bureau (BBB) has recommended Ashwani Bhatia to be MD of State Bank of India and Matam Venkat Rao and P.P. Sengupta as MD & CEO of Central Bank of India and Indian Overseas Bank, respectively. The board had interviewed 20 candidates for the top level positions in 3 state-owned banks. Bhatia is now a deputy managing director at SBI but on deputation to SBI Funds Management. He is being elevated to the position of MD to fill the vacancy created by the superannuation of Parveen Kumar Gupta on 31 March. He will be joining Dinesh Kumar Khara, Arijit Basu and Challa Sreenivasulu Setty as MD in SBI. Rao, who is currently ED at Canara Bank, will take charge as MD & CEO of Central Bank of India once Pallav Mohapatra completes his tenure on 28 February 2021. Similarly, Sengupta, who is currently DMD at SBI, will take charge as MD & CEO of Indian Overseas Bank once Karnam Sekar completes his tenure on 30 June 2020.
