Japan’s Softbank and India’s payments company Paytm are partnering to start a digital payments service in Japan. This makes Japan Paytm’s second international foray. Around March 2017, the company said it is starting operations in Canada, where it partnered with about 1000 merchants initially and looked to provide utility payments to the residents. Softbank is a financier for Paytm’s parent company One97 Communications and holds nearly 20% stake in the company. The new payment service is expected to leverage artificial intelligence along with other financial services, including insurance companies.
