Vijaya Bank has developed a village in Karnataka, Chandagalu, as a digital village. The bank has trained all the 5,995 account holders in the bank’s branch in the village in order to avail the cashless banking services. Eugene E. Karthak, regional director, Reserve Bank of India, inaugurated the project. He said villagers should make use digitized banking activities for speedy and safe transactions. Kishore Sansi, MD and CEO of the bank, said account holders in the village have opened 2,350 accounts under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana’ and availed bank loans worth Rs. 18.21 crore. The bank has opened an ATM counter in the village besides offering high-speed Wi-Fi facilities. The bank conducted training sessions on internet and mobile banking in the village to encourage digitization and a cashless economy, Sansi said.
