Societe Generale India, a subsidiary of French banking services company Societe Generale rolled out its first financial inclusion project in India at Garodia in Sanand in Gujarat. Sanand is an upcoming auto hub. According to Marc Emmanuel Vives, CEO & group chief country officer, Societe Generale, the next project would be start in Mumbai and permission from Reserve Bank of India is awaited. The bank said the financial inclusion efforts in Sanand will also be extended to another village nearby – Manipur. Both the villages have less than 1700 population. Vives said the bank expects 250-300 accounts from each village and the bank does not look as just a mandatory requirement but as an opportunity to work for the underprivileged.
