Shriram Life Insurance Company is tying up with Telenor India Communications to bring life insurance services to the subscriber base of Telenor. Shriram Life Insurance will give insurance cover to all Telenor subscribers who opt in, through a group life insurance product. S. Natarajan, director, Shriram Group, said the tie-up will offer an opportunity to spread insurance awareness among the large rural adn semi-urban subscribers of Telenor and increase insurance penetration on low bracket size to a large subscribe base. While similar tie-ups are common abroad, this is for the first time that an Indian insurer has tied up with a telecom services provider. The initiative is expected to further financial inclusion as telecom companies enjoy higher penetration and thus it will be an opportunity for Shriram Life to bring larger section of society under the umbrella of insurance.
