The Reserve Bank has cautioned the public not to fall prey to spurious offers made by a fake website in its name offering savings accounts. The central bank said in a notification that a fake website has been created at http://www.rbi-inonline.org/savings.html by some unknown persons offering various banking facilities and asking members of public to apply online for opening ‘RBI Savings Account’ and advised the members of the public not to fall prey to spurious offers made by the fake website. It further cautioned public that applying online on that website could result in compromising their own crucial personal information that may be misused to cause financial and other loss to them. It said there has been instances of fictitious offers of huge money sent in the name of RBI or its governor and other senior officials and guides the public what to do upon receiving such e-mails.
