The National Bank of Pakistan will be granted a preparatory license by the Chinese government to establish a branch in Beijing. The aim of having a branch in China is to accelerate trade and investment activities under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). China Banking Regulatory Commission had already acknowledged formal request of the bank to set up a branch in May. The bank may be given 6 to 9 months to set up a branch. The bank had set up a representative office in Beijing way back in 1981.
