Nabard launches financial literacy program

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has launched Vithiya Sakshartha Abhiyan, a financial literacy program on trains as part of its effort to create awareness among masses on banking services. NABARD CGM Jiji Mammen said NABARD would launch the literacy program on other 11 fast passenger trains. The bank noticed that the financial inclusion programs were not yielding the desired results as the rural folk were not utilizing the banking services optimally. Last year, 165 RTC buses were used to disseminate the messages. The campaign was successful. The bank has plans to add 20 to 25 more buses this year to the campaign, he said.
