Banking Ombudsman has received 5019 complaints against the banks in Gujarat, ranging from non-adherence to fair practices to various ATM/Debit/Credit card and levying of various charges, in the financial year 2014-15. This is against 4606 complaints received in previous year. Districts including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot have contributed around 60% of the total complaint filed. Out of 5019 complaints, 1875 were found to be maintainable under the banking ombudsman scheme notified by RBI as compared to 1771 during the previous year. 36% of the total complaints were against nationalized banks and 27% were against SBI. 26% grievances are against private banks and 11% against foreign banks.
