Michael Debabrata Patra, who is now ED in charge of monetary policy division at the Reserve Bank of India, has been appointed deputy governor of the central bank. A career central banker, he will fill in the post left vacant by Viral Acharya who left RBI in July 2019. He is expected to take over the monetary policy portfolio handled by Acharya. He will have a tenure of 3 years. Patra holds a doctorate in economics and had undertaken post-doctoral research in financial stability at Harvard University.
