Ithmaar Bank said by the first quarter of 2019, its customers would not need ATM cards to make transactions as it plans to launch biometrics-based validation. Bahrain’s Islamic bank said it aims to be the first bank in the region to offer the service. Ahmed Abdul Rahim., chief executive of the bank, said when the service is introduced, the customers will no longer be required to use their bank cards at ATMs. Instead, they will simply be able to use their fingerprint along with their PIN to process payments. The facility would also be extended to PoS transactions, he added. The service would use a platform developed by Eazy Financial Services, which is an automated fingerprint identification system deployed and implemented in many countries around the world for both civil and forensic applications.
